Once upon a time there was an artist. She was taught to use all the media. Well mostly. Some media still proves to be a mystery. But in teaching many media, she was never taught to make a choice, a choice to grow with.
Until now. Now she has found her voice in stories, portraits and places through watercolor, pen, and colored pencil. These move and work with her, not waiting for her to push them around or sitting silently, staring back at her.
The stories are always there. The media finally spoke up. Now all three have come together in the art you see by Janice Hoffman.
And if the art speaks to you, well, the art was made with you in mind.

Nearly 30 years as a Navy, freelance and newspaper photojournalist has provided me the medium and the time to develop a keen insight into composition, an eye for the truth and a penchant for uncovering the hidden details in a story.
There is more than one way to tell the story in art. Over time, I found I wanted to portray these stories beyond the soul-bearing detail of photography and express them through the flow, the quiet elegance and dignity of oil. The stories of journeys, ancient day and just yesterday, spill into the canvas to invite you on your own journey.
Whether in oil or in photography, my artistic passions and muses will be apparent: the sea and Paris, France. Both have inspired creators of many kinds for centuries. Today, that inspiration is alive in my art.
